Pioneer Mountain Medicine was founded to provide wilderness medicine education to individuals, guides and professional athletes. Founded by a group of passionate wilderness medicine experts who have a desire to share their knowledge and experience with others. We specialize in providing in-depth wilderness medicine courses tailored to individual or group needs through our educational partner AdventureMed. Based out of Sun Valley, ID we offer WFA, WFR and WLS:MP certification based courses locally and provide private destination based courses upon request.

Ryland, the founder of Pioneer Mountain Medicine (PMM), has dedicated his life to adventure, medicine, and entrepreneurship. Ryland, the founder of Pioneer Mountain Medicine (PMM), has dedicated his life to adventure, medicine, and entrepreneurship. He took his first wilderness first aid course at the age of 13 and has been committed to this path ever since. Ryland progressed to become a junior ski patrol member and an apprentice ski guide before enrolling in nursing school at Idaho State University.
Upon earning a Bachelor of Science in Nursing, he began his career as an emergency department nurse in Ketchum, Idaho. He has since established a successful IV therapy clinical practice and merged his passion for adventure and wilderness medicine to create Pioneer Mountain Medicine. After completing his instructor apprenticeship with AdventureMed two years ago, Ryland has been teaching wilderness medicine courses from Idaho to Alaska. Through Pioneer Mountain Medicine, he is excited to continue sharing his wilderness medicine expertise with other outdoor enthusiasts and professionals.

Lucy is a seasoned Registered Nurse with over 13 years of experience in critical care. Holding a Bachelor of Science in Nursing, she is board-certified in both Emergency Nursing and Critical Care Nursing. Lucy brings extensive clinical knowledge and a calm, capable presence to high-acuity environments.

Holding a Bachelor of Science in Nursing, she is board-certified in both Emergency Nursing and Critical Care Nursing. Lucy brings extensive clinical knowledge and a calm, capable presence to high-acuity environments.
In addition to her hospital work, Lucy is in her second year of teaching Wilderness First Responder (WFR) courses, blending her medical expertise with a deep love for the outdoors. A passionate skier and committed backcountry recreator, she thrives at the intersection of medicine, education, and wilderness safety.
